HANUKKAH {THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS} THE FESTIVAL HONORING THE BIRTH OF YESHUA {JESUS}
YESHUA {JESUS} CELEBRATED HANUKKAH {THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS}
When MIRYAM {MARY} gave birth to her firstborn, a son, YESHUA {JESUS} there in Bethlehem, in that Judean village within sight of Jerusalem, Hanukkah {the Festival of Lights} had already been observed yearly since the previous 2nd century, and in the year 27, that son of MIRYAM {MARY}, he who would become the most universally honored rabbi in the long history of the Jewish people, celebrated Hanukkah {the Festival of Lights} in the Jerusalem Temple: “The Feast of Dedication [“Dedication” being a translation of the Hebrew word “Hanukkah”] was then taking place in Jerusalem. It was winter, And Jesus walked about in the temple area of the Portico of Solomon” {Gospel of John 10:22,23-New American Bible}.
CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF HIM WHO IS “THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD”
Since the exact date of the birth of YESHUA {JESUS} is not known, it appears that the young rabbi’s birth first began to be honored by his Jewish disciples on Hanukkah {the Festival of Lights} on the 25th of the Jewish month of Kislev {on the Gregorian Calendar, the 25th of Kislev is the 25th of December, the Festival of Lights being celebrated on that alternative date, the disciples of YESHUA {JESUS} following the example of the Wise Men: “They saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. They then opened their treasures and offered him gifts” {Gospel of Matthew 2:11-New American Bible}, the Wise Men exclusively paying homage to YESHUA {JESUS}, exclusively offering gifts to him}, the Festival of Lights being an appropriate time to honor him who had said about himself: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life” {Gospel of John 8:12-New Revised Standard Version Bible}, honoring the birth of him who has promised those who follow him that he will be their unerring guide, being that “Light” guiding them to GOD’S Kingdom, that “Light” guiding them to their eternal home.
HONORING THE BIRTH OF THE YOUNG RABBI WHO IS WORTHY
This year, the year 2015, Hanukkah {the Festival of Lights} will be observed beginning at sundown, on Sunday, the 6th of December, being celebrated during 8 days, until sundown of the 14th of December, and during this year’s Hanukkah {the Festival of Lights}, many disciples of YESHUA {JESUS} will honor his birth, honoring the birth of him who is worthy: “You are worthy…because you were sacrificed, and with your blood you bought people for God of every race, language, people and nation” {Book of the Revelation of John 5:9-New Jerusalem Bible}, many following the young rabbi’s example, celebrating Hanukkah {the Festival of Lights}; as he had done there in the Jerusalem Temple, honoring him by bringing to mind, on each of the festival’s 8 days, the meaning of his life and mission.
